How to Wake Up Early and Not Feel Tired – A Guide for Busy Moms

wake up early

Being a busy mom is like having a full-time job with overtime hours and no coffee breaks. Between taking care of the kids, managing the household, and perhaps even juggling a career, finding time for yourself can feel like a distant dream. But what if I told you that waking up at 5 AM could be the secret weapon to reclaiming your day and getting more done, while simultaneously maintaining your energy levels? It might seem impossible to wake up early but in this post, we’ll explore the art of becoming an early riser and staying energized throughout the day.

Here are my top 5 tips for waking up early and not feeling tired all day:

1. Wake up Early, Get to Bed Early:

The foundation of waking up at 5 AM and feeling refreshed starts with your nighttime routine. As tempting as late-night Netflix binges may be, prioritize a good night’s sleep. Aim for 7-8 hours of quality rest each night. Going to bed early ensures you’re well-rested and ready to tackle the day when that 5 AM alarm rings. Another key point is to go to bed when you feel tired. Between 9:30 – 10:00 seems to be the sweet spot for me.

2. Mid-Day Energy Boost:

Around mid-day, it’s common to experience a dip in energy levels. Combat this with a natural energy boost. Instead of reaching for a sugary energy drink, consider a greens drink supplement or a natural smoothie packed with nutrient-rich ingredients. Add protein powder to your smoothie for even more benefits. These options provide a sustainable energy source without the crash associated with caffeine or sugar-laden drinks.

3. Fuel Your Body with Proper Nutrition:

Nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining energy levels. Start your day with a balanced breakfast that includes protein, complex carbohydrates, and healthy fats. This combination will help stabilize your blood sugar levels and keep you energized throughout the morning.

Snack wisely by choosing foods like nuts, yogurt, or fresh fruit to maintain steady energy levels. At lunch and dinner, prioritize lean proteins, whole grains, and plenty of veggies. Avoid heavy, carb-loaded meals that can lead to post-lunch energy slumps.

4. Exercise for Energy:

Regular exercise is a game-changer for maintaining energy levels. Incorporate fitness into your daily routine, even if it’s just a 20-minute workout. Morning workouts can be especially effective in boosting your energy for the day ahead. Whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, or a full-fledged gym workout, physical activity releases endorphins that help combat fatigue.

5. Make it a Habit to Wake up Early:

Consistency is key when it comes to waking up early and feeling alert. Set a bedtime and wake-up time that allows you to get those crucial 7-8 hours of sleep. Create a calming bedtime routine to signal to your body that it’s time to wind down.

Here’s an extra tip that helps on those early mornings  – resist the urge to hit the snooze button. Snoozing disrupts your sleep cycles and can leave you feeling groggy. Instead, place your alarm out of arm’s reach so you have to physically get out of bed to turn it off. Once you’re up, stay up, and you’ll find that waking up at 5 AM becomes more manageable.

Undoubtedly, it may take some time for your body to adjust to waking up early, so be patient with yourself. Over time, you’ll find that you not only wake up at 5 AM but also feel energized and ready to conquer your day.

Being a busy mom doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your own well-being and productivity. By prioritizing sleep, incorporating natural energy sources, maintaining a healthy diet, and incorporating exercise into your routine, you can become an early riser who tackles each day with vitality. So, set your alarm for 5 AM and watch how this simple change transforms your life.
