White Sauce
We use this white sauce on hawaiian haystacks and tater tot casserole at our house. The white sauce replaces cream of chicken soup in any recipes that call for it. I am not a fan of prepackaged food or soups in cans so I love this alternative. I like to have more control of what is in our sauce. The onion and the garlic give the sauce flavor so don’t leave them out. In my opinion, they are the most important part.
Here is how I make it:
-1/3 c. flour
-3 T. butter
-3 cloves minced garlic
-onion seasoning
Melt butter in a sauce pan then add flour and seasonings. Mix together then add 1 cup at a time:
-2 cups milk
-1 cup chicken broth
Increase heat til simmering, then turn back to low to allow it to thicken. It needs to be stirred often. If you have extra, it freezes well and can be used at a later time.
